Two of my favourite things in one: It’s a book… on beauty!
I discovered Kate Somerville last summer when her products launched in the UK on Cult Beauty and around the same time she was a guest on the Oraccle of Skincare, Caroline Hirons YouTube channel, and it was in this video that Kate’s book ‘Complexion Perfection’ was mentioned. As someone who has always had a soft spot for fashion/ beauty/ lifestyle books I knew that I had to give this a go.
This is so much more than a book on skincare and I defy anyone not to root for teenage Kate and her personal struggles. Personally I was tearing up reading it which is not what I expected from my bedtime reading of a skincare book.
Published in 2010 this book contains information that feels bangs up to date today with information on Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C and Vitamin A (Retinol) which just goes to show how ahead of the game Kate was back in 2010.
The first two parts of the book do feel a bit like reading a text book, but a very interesting text book on the science of skin and skincare, as they are very heavy on the science. I found myself writing notes on the structure of skin and on Kate’s Skin Pyramid. But as someone who loves skincare I greatly enjoyed this.
Later on in the book there are before and after pictures of skin makeovers that Kate and her team have worked on and the results are simply stunning. If we ever get a Kate Somerville clinic in the UK, or I ever find myself in L.A., I will so be trying to get an appointment!
The book concludes with some fashion, hair and makeup advice from Kate’s friends in the Glam Squad which I felt really gave the book a lovely rounded feel.
Complexion Perfection is a great beauty resource, I will definitely be referring back to it and would highly recommend it to fellow skincare junkies like myself.
Now, you didn’t think I just bought the book by Kate Somerville? Oh no, I had to give the beauty products a go as well. So stay tuned for the first Kate Somerville skincare review coming soon.
Till then, Happy Reading
