This was great. Easily one of my favourite reads of the year so far. I couldn’t have been happier with this book.

I picked it up after seeing a recommendation online, and then hearing about it everywhere! I was on a book buying ban at the time so I had to wait to actually get my hands on a copy and that wait was terrible 🙂 But I got the book and I’m really glad I did. It was fantastic. Pick this one up for a thrilling read that will keep you guessing until the end.

I’d originally been intending on reading this one as buddy read with someone else, but they sped ahead and read it in two sittings, so I then went ahead and read it myself over three sittings. It is one of those that you will want to completely immerse yourself in and get lost in.

Elin is a police detective, who is currently on leave after a case went wrong and she was injured and mentally scarred. She ends up at this brand new hotel in the Swiss Alps that her brother is celebrating his engagement at. It was once a Sanatorium and has this dark and interesting past that creeps Elin and her boyfriend out. When someone close to the engagement party goes missing, Elin must decide if she can help – using her detective skills – or if she should just leave this one to the professionals. The problem with this little quandary is that there is a snow storm closing in and the Swiss police won’t be able to get there to help find the missing woman in time.

There is so much going on in this book. There is the tension between Elin and her brother, who’ve been slightly estranged in the past. There is the missing woman, of course. The odd atmosphere at the hotel. The strained relationship brewing between Elin and her boyfriend – arising from her reluctance to commit further to their relationship. AND there’s the snow storm danger!

I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of this book and I enjoyed trying to figure out the who’s and why’s. The ‘who’ I managed to get, but not the why.

I would recommend this one to anyone that loves a good locked room mystery, a snowy setting and that claustrophobic feeling you get from a lot of Agatha Christie books.

Happy reading!
